Faith is the substance of thinks hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Most of us have heard this scripture taught all of our lives. It is the premise of a many good sermons. It is the treatise of many books and Bible studies. It is the theme of many conventions and crusades.
Nevertheless, we live in the touch and feel world. We are physical beings, that like physical pleasure, and want to touch and feel it before we can accept that it is real. We like to see the substance before we can believe that it is real. We like the fast satisfaction, drive through windows, and pay-per-view movies. We want it right here and right now. If we can’t see it, touch it, feel it, then we do not believe it.
Faith is the opposite. Faith says that we need to believe it before we will see it. When we believe, our faith is the substance of what we believe in. It is the evidence by which we will see it. As a follower of Christ we can’t be led by what we see and hear. We have to believe blindly, knowing that we can trust God and he will not fail us. God is not going to let us down.
Next time you feel that the only way you can believe is if you see it first, remember faith is believing before you see.
